Eddie Botha: Cultural Interaction

“The most important thing in life is to be happy” says Fa.

She originally from Shanwei (汕尾) in Guangdong province, and moved to Hong Kong to join her husband earlier.

She has worked as a street cleaner (sweeper) on Lamma Island in Hong Kong for more than 10 years. She sweeps the streets, clears sidewalks, and collects rubbish on the island.

This community is one of the communities which are often overlooked, overworked and underpaid, they keep Hong Kong running and stand out on an online platform called @hongkongshifts.

The street cleaners who wear a surgical mask all day, and only takes it off during the lunch break. To protect themselves better, they use more soap and bleach solutions, which they have been using for years. The community members share equipment with each other.

In addition to masks, other protective equipment should be provided, including higher-quality masks, gloves, goggles and protective clothing in some cases, as well as guidelines or demonstrations on how to use protective equipment.

Australia based artist Eddie Botha @eddiebotha through this work Cultural Interaction, hopes to bring out the message of communion, no matter what kind of communities you are, mutual understanding, help each other, communicate with each other, that would make the world a better and more harmonious.
