George Condo: Internal Riot
Internal Riot is an exhibition of new paintings and works on paper by American artist George Condo, these works reflect the disturbing experience of physical distance and the lack of contact between people during the long period of social isolation. The pandemic forced Condor to take his portraiture practice to a new level, capturing invented characters in abstract networks that reveal the human nature inherent in their broken mental state.
In this new work, Condo’s characters struggle to deal with the huge uncertainty and disharmony that prevail on a global scale. These portraits reflect a series of emotions happening simultaneously within us. According to the artist, the subjects depicted are not in a state of interconnection. According to the artist, “we are dealing with opposing forces and the elasticity of time.”
