Olivier Mosset

Olivier Mosset is a manifestation organized by the four painters rather than exhibitions, which adopted a stance in opposition to the European tradition of “cultivated painting,” whether figurative or abstract.

Olivier Mosset is one of the core figures of post-war abstract painting and an important reference for generations of European and American painters. He is associated with Daniel Buren, Michel Parmentier, and Niele Toroni and is a member of the interim B.M.P.T. "Group." His extensive series of oil paintings were executed in the late 1960s and early 1970s and is one of the most widely discussed works of that era.

Mosset moved to the United States in 1977 and was part of the vibrant New York art scene in the 1980s. His later paintings explored monochrome and geometric abstraction and conducted a rigorous analysis of his early works. In hindsight, Mosset became one of the very few European painters who could be part of the large American painting tradition, but he still Pay attention to the development of his art field.
