"VJ Day in Times Square, 1945" is the most famous cover photograph by the German-born American photographer and photojournalist - Alfred Eisenstaedt (1898 – 1995), who was renowned for his ability to capture memorable images of important people in the news.

The photograph was taken with a small 35mm Leica camera at the Victory over Japan Day in Times Square, New York City, the United-States on 15th August 1945, depicted an American Navy sailor George Mendonsa (1923 -2019) grabbed and kissed a dental assistant Greta Zimmer Friedman (1924 - 2016) in a "dancelike dip" which "summed up the euphoria many Americans felt as the war came to a close", also "There is NO War or Victory in my photograph" in the words of Eisenstaedt ’s obituary.

FYI: Greta Zimmer Friedman was actually a dental assistant with a similar uniform, however, widely misattributed as being a photograph of a nurse.
